Learning from Home
"Reading"
Prepare to check out three library books, sometimes they'll have a requirement to check out at least one book of a specific genre
Students must have a book to read in class for about 30 minutes, each day
Read at least 80 minutes weekly, being sure that a minimum of one Accelerated Reader book is successfully read at the appropriate grade level. At least 70% must be acheived on the AR test. In the beginning of the schoolyear, at least .7 AR points need to be earned weekly. A list of the titles available at Las Brisas is on the Links button.
Record titles on reading list, your child can tell you about the beta fish program
Really dig into to books and discuss them.

Writing
In fourth grade, a heavy emphasis is put in developing all aspects of writing using the Six Traits of Writing as a guide.(Go to Links to get a breakdown of these skills.)
Spelling
Usually, your fourth grader will copy the list and bring it and a practice packet home the first schoolday of the week.The packet is due Wednesday.
Tests will be at the end of each week.
Handwriting
Assignments vary. Refer to the assignment notebook. Please do not use cursive at home; we need time to develop automatic skills with a high degree of precision first.
Math
At this time, keep practicing memorization of all of the basic addition, subtraction facts. Students take a 40 problem Mad Minute quiz each day and graph the results. We'll be using quantities up to six digits for computation and data collection. Use the math links at Links for practice games and activities.
Social Studies: Assignments vary. Refer to the assignment notebook.
Science: Assignments vary. Refer to the assignment notebook.
